I believe that is a very astute observation, Al. We are definitely with or in the presence of Christ by virtue of His Spirit which is within us. Remember that Jesus said he would send "another" Helper. That word "another" in greek means "one just like the first."

I do agree that the word rapture does not exist in the bible. But their are many words that we use that are not in
the bible. It also seems like that you are forgetting the last part of verse 17."And thus we shall always be with the
Lord." Do you think that we are always with the Lord? The Holy Spirit is with us which is the Helper Jesus Christ
sent to us. Again these are question as I, like Josh try to hammer out to understand this stuff.

The Matthew 27 passage is interesting, but as you said, it cannot possibly be used in reference to the Resurrection of the Dead, the emptying of Sheol. 1 Cor. 15:22-23 declares Christ the first to partake of the Resurrection. Whatever resurrections happened at Christ's death had to be natural resurrections of the type of Lazarus and Jairus' daughter.

Excellent presentation of your thoughts. Well done. I too am chewing on these ideas. "Things to Come" by J. Dwight Pentecost might be a good resource. The professor I work with uses it as his eschatology book.

There is an interesting passage in Matthew 27:51- 54. I don't think this would be considered a bodily resurrection of rapture quality but it is interesting to note.

I will review the Undeception link you offered.
