Julian Norridge: Americans Stole Baseball

A Brit named Julian Norridge has alleged in a new book that Americans stole baseball from the British and made out as if it were our idea.  He references Jane Austen’s novel Northanger Abbey from about 1798 in which Austen mentions baseball well before it was “officially invented” in America around 1845.  Norridge is so convinced that he has now written a book entitled (you can’t make this stuff up) Can We Have Our Balls Back, Please?

You know what this sounds like? Colony envy.   Sounds to me like someone’s still mad they got sent packing back to the U.K. by a bunch of colonists…and the French. That’s gotta hurt your national ego.

Ha…poor French people. Always the brunt. But you’ve gotta hand it to them – they could sure kick some butt in those days.
